![]() ![]() The most prominent feature of Final Draft is Set Element, which helps you write the script as per the industry standard (see Image 3). You can change the font, style, size, alignment as per your choice (see Image 1). Final Draft has always been way overpriced. You do what you are best suited for, while Final Draft does what it is best suited for. Highland 2 can do all of this as well, mind you, if money is tight. Get it to first draft stage in Highland 2 and then, if money is no object, bring into Final Draft when you’re finally looking to impress someone and at the submit stage. I’ve found a screenplay can develop more naturally using something like Highland 2, where you can stretch your narrative and put in bits of dialogue to see where it goes without artificially worrying about structure right away. IMHO, this is one of the reasons many movies lack originality these days- too much adherence to strict three act structure. Not to mention that if you structure your screenplay so strictly according to inciting incidents during the first draft, etc., this could be a recipe for a lackluster and unrealistic narrative. ![]() But for every other step up to that- development, outlining, flexibility- not to mention ease of use- Highland 2 is far superior.įinal Draft seems to have never been able to make it out of their rather clunky legacy interface items and I’ve always found it cumbersome to use. ![]() I started on Final Draft and it’s great for a polish and for rewrites during production- the very last steps in working with a screenplay. I went along with this, yet the update completely crashed my software, leading me to find alternative options.I dispute the very premise of this article. I also reached a point where my software was working fine, but told that I needed to update it in order to work with my new computer. While I understand the need for updates, I do not understand the frequency and the fact that it would knock out certain features such as the writer collaborating feature (which can now be easily replicated with online websites). This led to several collaborators having a different version of Final Draft that couldn't communicate with each other. While that might sound reasonable, the updates were frequent and always cost substantial amounts of money (for just an update!). Final Draft is one of the most powerful writing software available today, but it doesnt require any kind. Numerous features never worked for reasons that as far as I can tell were due to the compatibility of different software versions. The first feature we will discuss is the ease of use. The ease of use and the quality of the final document was a true thrill when I was beginning my career. There was an incredible thrill seeing a software that easily and smoothly formatted my words into industry standard screenplays - ESPECIALLY after having done it for quite some time manually in a more commonly used word processor. This led me to a much more cost-effective alternative that I have been incredibly happy with since. ![]() I was unfortunately rubbed the wrong way by the way my script fell apart and being told the only way to save my work was to buy the incredibly expensive, new version of the software. Version Control : The edits you make along the way will be saved and details. Seeing the scripts and really getting a knack for the craft that brought them to life. Some of these platforms include JotterPad, Final Draft, CeltX, Movie Magic. ![]()
